Real Talk: Are you the reason your business is failing?

If you’re struggling in your business, feeling like you’re doing everything possible to keep it going but nothing seems to work, and you’ve lost all motivation, I want you to ask yourself a tough question today:

Are you the reason your business is failing?

I know that’s a hard question not only to ask yourself but also to answer honestly. However, self-reflection is a fundamental component to running a successful business, and if your business isn’t what you set out for it to be, I want to get to the bottom of it, together.

So, if you’re a solo aesthetician or spa owner who’s investing time, money, and energy into creating the perfect business plan, getting out there to market yourself, deeply understanding your ideal client, and staying up-to-date with all of the current industry trends, know that you can still be struggling in your business.

All those factors don’t guarantee success, although, I would like to say congratulations on putting in that work because it’s not easy and it’s extremely necessary for building a healthy business.

But, even if it looks like you are doing everything perfectly from the outside and that you’ve got all your ducks in a row, your business can still be stagnant or even failing. So, what gives?

You may have a problem with mindset.

Let me preface the rest of the post by saying I know mindset can seem like a “woo woo” concept, but it’s not. Mindset is, in fact, scientific, and it has been proven that our thoughts and beliefs influence our actions and outcomes both negatively and positively

Getting stuck in a mindset that curbs the growth of your business is a common issue among business owners, and more often than not, it's because the problem stems from limiting beliefs ingrained in us from an early age.

These limiting beliefs could be centered around money, time, career, goals, relationships, pretty much anything. And also know limiting beliefs don't have to be born out of extreme struggle, anyone can have them, and most people do.

Take for example, “I could never make a six figure income as a solo aesthetician” or even something more broad like “life is hard.”

Now, take those limiting beliefs and compound them with the fact that so many aestheticians struggle with knowing their worth, and we’ve got a real problem on our hands. A problem that, if solved, can be the key to success in turning everything around for your business if you’re doing the additional non-mindset work I mentioned above.

So, if you now acknowledge that limiting beliefs can be the culprit of your business struggles, how do you address those beliefs so you can flip the script and stop being the reason that your business is failing?

That answer is that we’ve got to take action in gradually and incrementally shifting our thoughts so they align with a success mindset.

It’s not something that happens overnight, it is a process that requires daily, weekly, and monthly intention and changes in the way that you think and approach life. And a lot of times, it requires telling yourself things, for example, mantras, that sound or feel ridiculous, but if said often enough become your new way of thinking.

For example, if you're always thinking "there are never enough hours in the day!" What if you consciously thought or said to yourself, "I have X, Y, and Z to do today and I've got plenty of time to make it happen and get to wind down and relax at the end of the day."?

It may sound totally far-fetched, but with time and intentional small shifts in the actions you take, you'll eventually find yourself relaxing in the evening and thinking, "huh, I can get it all done in a day with time to enjoy life as well...this is balance."

If you want to go deeper into understanding limiting beliefs, I highly suggest that you pick up Gay Hendricks' book The Big Leap, which does a fantastic job of explaining this concept as well as sharing how to move past your limiting beliefs.

Keep in mind, the first step in moving past our limiting beliefs is acknowledging them, and if you’ve done that today by reading this post, you’re already on the right path to achieving your definition of success.

Until next time, keep making the world a more beautiful place, inside and out.
